The HiSilicon Kirin 658 is an ARM-based octa-core SoC designed for mid-range smartphones and tablets, announced in early 2017. This chipset features eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, divided into two clusters to balance performance and power efficiency. The high-performance cluster includes four cores clocked up to 2.35 GHz, while the power-saving cluster includes four cores clocked up to 1.7 GHz.
Compared to its predecessors, the Kirin 650 and Kirin 655, the Kirin 658 offers a higher clock speed for the performance cores (2.35 GHz versus 2.1 GHz and 2.0 GHz), resulting in improved processing power for demanding applications and multitasking.
The Kirin 658 integrates a Mali-T830 MP2 GPU, providing adequate graphics performance for mid-range devices, suitable for casual gaming and multimedia consumption. It supports Full HD displays, ensuring a clear and vibrant visual experience.
In terms of connectivity, the Kirin 658 includes an integrated LTE Cat 6 modem, supporting download speeds up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds up to 50 Mbps. It also supports various wireless standards, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, ensuring reliable and fast connections.
